Battlefields and Weather: Reading the Ground in Abuja World: Frontline

No two battles in Abuja World: Frontline look the same. Each district is fought on a battlefield of its own, and every battle has its own weather and time of day. Both change how far you can see, where the cover is and which weapons work best.

Seven battlefields

BattlefieldGroundWhat you'll find
Jabi (home)LakesideGreen banks, reeds and open water on one flank.
KubwaFarmland and expresswayA long open highway, an overpass and wrecked cars for cover.
WuseShelled market quarterRed earth, rows of market stalls, burnt buses, close fighting.
GarkiShelled city blocksGutted office buildings on a street grid, rubble everywhere.
GwagwaladaRiver countryA river crossing at two bridges, sandy banks and mango trees.
AsokoroRocky highlandsGranite domes, steep slopes and boulder fields, snipers on high ground.
SamizaScorched valleyThe warlords' walled fortress, always under burning skies.

On every battlefield the enemy holds five defence lines with trenches, sandbags, machine-gun nests and wire. Your own base sits behind your starting position, with metal sheds, a chain-link fence, floodlights and parked trucks.

Each battle has a page of its own with the ground, the enemy and tactics: see all battles.

Six kinds of weather

The weather and hour are chosen when a battle starts, and everyone in that battle sees the same. The opening message names them.

WeatherWhat it looks likeHow to fight in it
Clear afternoonBright sun, sharp shadows, long views. The best conditions for snipers and long-range rifle fire.
OvercastGrey sky, soft light, a few smoke columns.Even light makes enemies in cover harder to spot. Use the drone scan.
Golden duskLow orange sun, long shadows, darker ground.Enemies with the sun behind them are hard to see. Change angle.
Misty dawnPale sky and thick haze close to the ground.Enemies appear out of the mist at short range. Use the AR-15 or MP5.
Burning fieldsDry golden grass, scorched earth, burning grass lines, big smoke columns.Smoke on the horizon hides distant positions; fight at medium range.
RainDark sky, wet ground, falling rain.Short views and dark ground: stay close to your squads.

Smoke and fire

Smoke rises from fires on the horizon, from burning grass lines on the edges of the field, from destroyed tanks and trucks, and from shell bursts. It is not just decoration: a smoke column between you and the enemy can hide a position. Burning wrecks smoke for about 40 seconds before they burn out.
