Side Missions: Hostage Rescue and Enemy Commanders

Every battle in Abuja World: Frontline has two kinds of side mission on top of taking the five sectors: civilians held hostage behind each enemy line, and an enemy commander who can be taken alive. Both pay War Funds and both change how you fight.
Hostage rescue
Two civilians are held just behind every enemy line, sitting on the ground and marked with a yellow beacon. To free them:
- Fight your way to them. They are behind the defenders of their sector, so you can only reach the hostages of the sector you are attacking or the one you have just taken.
- Stand next to them (outside a vehicle) and stay close for two seconds. A message tells you the rescue has started.
- Both hostages are freed together and run back to your safe zone on their own.
Each hostage you free pays ₦10,000 in War Funds. If you capture the sector without reaching them, your soldiers free them anyway, but there is no bounty.
Tips
- Order your squads to Hold while you go in, so they keep the defenders busy.
- Rhino's Armour up or Tiger's Adrenaline gets you through the last stretch of open ground.
- Free the hostages of sector A on your first push: it is the easiest bounty in the game.
Capturing the enemy commander
In the Battle for each district, an enemy commander leads the defence of sector C. He is marked with a red beacon and has three times a normal soldier's health.
- Wound him. When his health runs out he does not die: he surrenders, and a white beacon appears over him.
- Take him prisoner. Reach him while he is surrendering. Your capture pays ₦30,000, and he is marched back to your safe zone under guard. If you leave him too long once his sector is within reach, he slips away.
- Hold off the rescue. As soon as he arrives, eight enemy soldiers swing round your flank to free him. Hold your safe zone for 75 seconds, or wipe out the rescue squad, and he stays your prisoner for another ₦50,000.
- If they reach him and nobody from your side is nearby, he escapes and runs back to his lines.
Tips
- When the rescue squad is announced, switch to Hold or send a squad to the safe zone in the Command View.
- The rescue squad comes from one side. Watch which way and put your soldiers there.
- The shotgun and Rhino's Armour up are perfect for the last-second defence of the prisoner.
- A captured commander, rescued hostages and the number of times you were pushed back all appear on the battle's result card.
Why side missions matter
A battle where you free all ten hostages and hold the commander can pay as much as ₦180,000 in side-mission bounties, on top of what you earn for kills and sectors. That money buys the reinforcements, armour and barracks upgrades you need for the harder districts later in the campaign.
